Christine Mowat is one of the founders of Wordsmith. She designed and taught plain language courses for every level of government in Canada, for educational institutions in Alberta, and for organizations and corporations across Canada. Christine Mowat has been a designer and developer of curriculum for writing programs, writer, speaker and facilitator of plain-language writing workshops for lawyers and other professionals. She has spoken at numerous legal organizations and international conferences on plain legal language. Her many publications have included Clarity, the international legal plain-language journal. Her presentations at international conferences have included the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Sweden, Mexico, and Canada.
Her publications include the second edition of A Plain-Language Handbook for Legal Writers and more than 30 articles. She continues to write extensively and consult on plain language and other areas of interest.
In 2009, Christine received a lifetime achievement award from the Plain Language Association InterNational (PLAIN).
