The social determinants of health suggests that a variety of social conditions influence the health of populations. They include
- income and social status;
- social support networks;
- education; employment/working conditions;
- social environments;
- physical environments;
- personal health practices and coping skills;
- healthy child development;
- gender; and
- culture.
Canadians have played a leading role in developing this framework. The Government of Canada maintains a portal to resources that advance this approach to social equity.
